This mini-series was inspired by the late, great Julia Childs who was one of the first to bring a cooking show into our living rooms. Thus paving the way for the Food Network many years later. Julia is ultimately responsible for my love of cooking and inspired me to cook with whole foods and to create an herb garden at home.
While my mom did cook some things from scratch such as mashed potatoes, marinara sauce and baked goods she was not above embracing the the new time savers offered in the 70’s i.e. boil in bag and the TV dinners.
My approach in the creation of this series includes book pages from Julia Child’s Cookbook “From Julia Child’s Kitchen” as the substrate for creating the cyanotypes. I used various herbs, fruits, and vegetables as the focal point because they were the building blocks to many of Julia’s recipes. Also included in the works are water-based mediums that incorporate additional color.
