ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a mixed-media artist whose works exists as a conversation between past and present, shaped by a lifelong connection to nature, the ocean, and our relationship with the environment. Raised on the East Coast, I developed an early appreciation for coastal landscapes and the sea which is an influence that continues to inform both my imagery and materials. Nautical maps, botanicals, and natural forms often appear in my work, weaving personal travel and lived experience into each piece.

My practice is rooted in a deep need to interpret what I experience as I move through the natural world. Art is how I make sense of my place within it—an essential form of expression when words fall short. Through my work, I aim to foster awareness of our interconnectedness with nature and to honor art-making as both purpose and practice.

I work primarily with cyanotype, painting, printmaking, and encaustic processes; choosing materials that bridge historical techniques with contemporary mark-making. Using environmentally conscious, light-sensitive chemicals, I expose locally gathered plant life to sunlight, allowing nature to actively participate in the creation of each piece. Once developed, I hand-paint and layer the surface, building depth, texture, and personal gesture.

I hope my work offers viewers a sense of peace and quiet reflection—an invitation to reconnect with the natural world, whether they live by the sea, in the countryside, or within the city. Ultimately, my work is shaped by place, personal history, and the influence of past and present creators, all guiding me toward an evolving path of self-expression and discovery.
